Can You Get Lab Tests Through Arlo?

Can Arlo order lab tests or blood work?: Getting the testing your child needs in Ontario

Yes, Arlo providers can order lab tests and blood work for your child when it's medically necessary. We work with Ontario's healthcare system to make sure your child gets the right tests without you having to wait for an in-person appointment.

How it works

When you text Arlo about your child's symptoms, our licensed nurse practitioners and doctors can assess whether lab work would help with diagnosis or monitoring. If testing is needed, we'll send a requisition directly to your phone that you can take to any LifeLabs or other approved lab location across Ontario.

The process is straightforward. After your Arlo consultation, you'll receive the lab requisition as a PDF you can print or show on your phone. You can then visit any participating lab with your child. Most LifeLabs locations accept walk-ins, though some tests might require fasting or specific timing that we'll explain clearly.

Results typically come back within 24 to 48 hours for routine blood work. Our providers will review the results and follow up with you through the Arlo app to explain what they mean and discuss next steps if any treatment is needed.

What you'll need

- Your child's Ontario health card

- The lab requisition from Arlo (printed or on your phone)

- Photo ID for yourself

- Your child (some tests can be done on older teens independently)

Common testing we can order

Arlo providers frequently order blood work to check for infections, anemia, blood sugar levels, or vitamin deficiencies. We can also request urine tests for suspected UTIs or kidney function, throat swabs for strep throat, and other routine diagnostic tests that help us understand what's making your child feel unwell.

We work within Ontario's publicly funded system, so most tests we order are covered by OHIP just like they would be if ordered by your family doctor.

Common questions

Can you order tests without seeing my child in person? Yes, our licensed providers can order appropriate lab work based on symptoms and medical history you share during your consultation.

What if the results are abnormal? We'll contact you right away to discuss results and arrange follow-up care, whether that's treatment through Arlo or a referral to your family doctor or a specialist.

Do I need to go to a specific lab? You can visit any LifeLabs location or other lab that accepts Ontario requisitions. We'll let you know which labs in your area can process the specific tests ordered.

The takeaway

Getting lab work for your child doesn't have to mean long waits or multiple appointments. Arlo can get you the answers you need quickly and conveniently.

You can always text Arlo and talk to a provider in 5 minutes!
